From tinkerer to enterprise architect to AI founder
Eric grew up as a builder — first with hardware and embedded projects, then with the databases and distributed systems that power business. That curiosity never left; it just scaled.
In the early years, Eric cut his teeth running networks and supporting mission‑critical systems. He quickly gravitated to software and data, fascinated by how architecture choices shape reliability and speed. At a regional bank in Birmingham, he delivered across Corporate Security, Finance, and HR — implementing fraud detection on Oracle and WebLogic, building data marts for finance insights, and leading web platforms that resembled microservices before it had the name.
As a consultant and ISV engineer, he designed products end‑to‑end in C#/.NET — from APIs to UI — reinforcing a pragmatic, shipping‑first mindset. That hands‑on breadth set the stage for enterprise architecture.
At an international financial company, Eric stepped into senior architecture leadership. He translated complex requirements into capability‑based systems: an advisor/client platform integrated with back-office systems, a high‑performance order routing engine with real‑time margin and risk, and a robust IAM foundation for new product lines. He partnered with executives and domain teams to align multi‑year roadmaps, tackle technical debt, and champion secure coding and event‑driven patterns at scale.

In 2018, he founded Vulcan365 — a family‑owned Birmingham company focused on proactive managed IT, cybersecurity, Microsoft 365, and Azure. The goal: remove IT stress so local businesses can grow, while delivering the reliability and trust of an enterprise partner.
By 2024, the throughline converged on AI. Eric launched Vulcan365 AI to bring enterprise rigor to real‑world AI systems. The focus is .NET‑first and Azure‑first: agents with tools and memory, evaluation harnesses, and safe deployment patterns. Alongside delivery, he trains developers and business leaders to use AI responsibly and effectively.
